Hey people !

I am not much of a poster, but I lurk around and read posts...

Anyway, I was scaping a friend of mine, wiht season one, I loaned him the first 4 episodes I have on DVD, and he watched it and didn't like it.

Fast forward a few months, I invite him to my home to watch farscape, I let him watch PK Tech Girl then from Durka Returns and to The Hidden Memory, and he liked it alot, and we have scheduled another farscape night, then concluding season one and entering season 2....

Was this the right way to do it, I knew he would have to take a lot, but he became hooked !!! So, was it ??? Or can you point out episodes, that are a must see episode to scaper fans ???

well, if you were going back through season 1 and picking out some of the ones that you missed to show him I would recomment DNA Mad Scientist, The Flax, and A Human Reaction (one of the best in my opinion).

Season 2: Mind the Baby, Crackers Don't Matter, Out of Their Minds, Look at the Princess 1-3, Won't Get Fooled Again, Liars Guns and Money 1-3, Die Me Dichotomy.

Since I haven't seen season 3 in a very long time and don't own it on dvd, I can't recommend eps from that season :( The ones that I suggested are my personal favorites from season 2 and I have seen them many times, but there are no episodes that are unwatchable (like Jeramiah Crichton) in the second season. I hope this helps a little

I always like to scape with Till The Blood Runs Clear if I have only one episode to show. I put together a small FAQ on this question (with a J&A shipper slant, of course) on my web site: http://www.johnaeryn.com/faq/faq4.shtml

I just brought up my season 1 dvds to my friend and left them with him saying "here. watch this, you won't be disappointed". And he wasn't :) Exodus from Genesis was the first episode he raved about interestingly enough (was ep 5 on my dvds), he couldn't get over the bit at the end when John and Aeryn are staring into space from the open platform watching the spores drift out like golden starburst, he said it was so beautiful (anything that can inspire that kind of reaction in a guy has to be good :) ). It was after watching the full season that he used the word "ADDICTED". I think you have to watch the full season to really appreciate how much of an epic it was as you do with season 3. Season 2 is fine for the standalone eps but some people may be put off my its weirdness if they haven't been broken in. "look at the princess" trilogy is usually popular.

as a relative newbie to FS having never seen the show before (still working through season 4 for the first time) A friend of mine at work loaned me the season 1 set I was somewhat reluctant fearing it would be like star treck which for one reason or another I couldn't stand. I figured what the heck I'll give it a chance and I must say that watching them in order is the best way to go especially if you haven't seen them before. There are many very cool episodes but when you see them in context they are that much better. The way the show is written each episode builds on the previous episodes. So to me viewing the episodes in order gives you a better feel for what's going on. The little inside jokes are funnier, the tension is more tangible, the sad moments are more emotional, and the happy moments are more enjoyable. As long as someone gives this show a chance they'll be hooked like I was. It took me half way through season one to get hooked enough to want to see the second season from that point on I've been hooked.

I’ve Scaped quite a few people. Not as much as some, but my numbers are on the rise yet again – just started Scaping my ex-wife’s fiancé – ain’t that a kick in the pants? Anyway – I’ve Scaped (or at least tried to Scape) everyone I know, from my best friend to my father, my ex-mother-in-law to co-workers. I’ve managed to make over 10 full fledged converts and I’m still on the look out for anyone else who could possibly love the show.

I’ve discovered a few tips I’ll share with you while you attempt to Scape the Newbies:

1)Tell of your experience! Tell the potential Newbie all about your “first time” with Farscape. Explain to them what it is about Farscape that is so special to you.

2)Don’t browbeat the Newbies! The show makes folks passionate and you should reflect that passion in your description of the show, but don’t bash potential Newbies over the head demanding they tune in. Too much will turn them off.

3)Let them progress at their own pace. I’ve noticed that as the Newbies get further into the show, they begin watching much more regularly and by the end of season 2 they are watching virtually everyday. This may not be the same for everyone, but this is what I’ve noticed through my own experience.

4)Spice it up! Don’t just passively watch it with them – throw a Farscape Viewing party. Nothing too big or fancy, some chips and soda would do. And only during, say, the multipart episodes and the season finales.

5)Reiterate – Keep the show’s progression fresh in the Newbie’s heads by casually recapping and discussing what they’ve been watching.

Just a warning also – I haven’t had 100% success. There are a few folks I’ve tried to get to watch and they’ll hear none of it. And had a few who tried, but couldn’t pay the attention necessary to really enjoy the show.

I don’t know – anyone else have any suggestions?

Hmm... I don't think there's much I can say without reiterating what people have said above.

One thing to think about though is the start of season 2. It was originally meant to be introduced with Dream A Little Dream (originally titled Re:Union and it's had some footage cut and some footage introduced). This could be a good idea to throw them a little, but it's up to you. I did this with some friends of mine and they loved it - they shouted at me and at the TV when it looked like John had died right at the start, but I think it's a pretty unforgettable way to introduce a new season.

Make sure you don't spoil them (hangs head in shame for spoiling the final episodes of season 4 for so many people).

I’ve finally been able to scape my wife, by letting her come to Farscape on her own. I tried once before, a couple of years ago, but she couldn’t get past the “muppets”. She was also such a huge fan of Firefly (which I got her into) that she had a hard time with how different the shows were. I gave it a rest for a while, not wanting to force her to watch something she wasn’t into. But a week or so ago she suggested on her own that we try again (I suspect she was just being kind, as I had had a very bad day). This time things were different. She liked Premier a lot, especially Ben’s performance, and his getting his eema kicked by Aeryn. Since then we’ve been watching at least one episode every night. So far I think her favorite episode is either The Flax (she loved Stanz, and laughed out loud when he kept telling D’argo she loved him) or A Human Reaction (she screamed when she thought Rygel was actually dead on the examination table). I think she might change her mind tonight though, as we’re watching Nerve and Hidden Memory. She’s gonna love Scorpy!

Watching again from the very beginning with her is great. It’s almost like watching it again for the very first time, since she’s always giving me her analysis of the eps and asking questions. I can’t tell her much though without spoiling her, so I usually just say IKBINT (I know, but I’m not telling). She insisted that I tell her if Chiana was going to be a regular though. She’s not sure she likes her yet. She loves Rygel and Aeryn the best. She doesn’t consider Rygel a “muppet” now, just a character.

I'm in the midst of 'scaping my girlfriend (God how rude does that sound?!?). We go through a fair number of TV shows, new and old. We've recently finished season 1 which she thought was a lot better than she thought it'd be. At the moment we're going through season 1 of Buffy, season 1 of Dead Like Me (my first time watching it, she's getting me into that) and new Saving Grace and also Women's Murder Club (really enjoy Saving Grace, Women's Murder Club not so much).

Mainly just got her watching Farscape as a new show to watch. She'd seen bits of it before and thought it'd just be a regular sci-fi. I think the fact that they're on the run and trying to survive, not just wandering about the galaxy solving problems willy-nilly, has surprised her a bit.
