Farscape DVDs are accessible at Gibert, or any of the FNAC stores. But the best way is to order them by email via www.fnac.com or www.amazon.fr Both websites have the DVDs but it is very new here and so we are only at the beginning of Season 1 (with regards to DVDs).

You might want to visit the Sci-fi store at the corner of rue saint jacques and boulevard saint-germain. They have Farscape magazines and are quite specialized.

theodan, thank you for pointing out that store! I stopped by yesterday and it was great. No more Farscape mags though, someone must have bought them out ;).

Happy I could help. I'm just trying to think of other places where you might want to go look for sci-fi and related subjects. If you are interested in comics, there is a store all the way up rue monsieur le prince (near the Luxembourg garden), and very close from there, another store rue soufflot (but I haven't been there in a long time). Otherwise, I suppose that WH Smith (rue de rivoli, right next to the US Embassy) and Brentano's (avenue de l'opéra) might have Farscape related books. On the very last floor of Gibert, boulevard saint-michel, they sell books in English. They had the Farscape calendar, but they are not very rich in sci-fi (and anyway, it might be more interesting for you to go to the bottom floor and look at all the comics (B.D.) since this is a kind of book that is not very commonplace in the US.
With regards to Farscape, there is an article this month about it in the French magazine called "Episode". There was an interesting one last year in "Generation séries", and it seems that the British magazine "SFX" asked their readers to elect their ten favourite sci-fi characters. Three come from movies (Han Solo (6), Darth Vader (9) and Gandalf (10)). The seven others come from tv series. Dr Who comes first, then Spike, Buffy, Willow and Angel are respectively 2, 3, 7, and 9, and JOHN CRICHTON and AERYN SUN are number 4 and 5 !!!!!

Sprqy, I did some checking and was able to find the Farscape Season 1 Volume 2 box set very prominently displayed at the FNAC in Forum des Halles. I'd estimate that it took up 10% of their entire "TV Series on DVD" display. Pretty impressive, I'd say!

And that Episode article was GREAT. They seemed to really like it. I had some very interesting cultural commentary running through my head at which episodes they picked as their favorites of the season - not the ones that are usually reccommended stateside, esp. "The Choice."

Hi!
Well, I now have Season 1, volumes 1, 2 and 3 now. Got them from fnac.com, and am waiting to go to London next month to buy the first dvds in Season 4, since we just finished viewing Season 3 two days ago here, and won't be seeing Season 4 before a very long time! I just found out that with the next issue of Episode, they will be selling the DVD with Farscape's pilot episode. Even though, I've seen it many times, it's nice to see it again. There's another French magazine that did a long article on "Farsape" last year, but I have to lay my hands on it. Once I find it, I can give you an idea of what they wrote, if you want.

Well I did like "The Choice" (probably due to my mixed origin, born in the us, living in france). It is unusual, indeed, to have profound, deep thought about questions of death in a series, and to me it seemed that it helped understand all the deaths that occur in season 3. So what are the the episodes usually recommended in the states? (give the numbers, because here the titles are all different, and it's hard to figure out what everybody is talking about).

I'm interested: what kind of cultural commentary? I participate in a french group of farscape friends, and there were rather interesting comments last week about Farscape and religion/the bible, presented like a very "american" notion (these days...)
